Building Your Dream Yard? While your plants settle in for winter, Zion Builders, Inc. can design and build:

  1.  Custom maintenance-free decks and patio covers

  2. Functional garden structures like pergolas or trellises

  3. Outdoor kitchens for summer barbecues and family events

Plant in fall for spring blooms

From bulbs to backyard bliss - get your yard spring ready now! Northern Nevada's climate (Zones 5-7) is ideal for these cold-hardy favorites:

Daffodils: Bright, hardy, reliable, deer & rabbit resistant. Thrive in full sun to partial shade. Requires well draining, fertile soil. Plant in Fall to enjoy late Winter to early Spring.

Hyacinths: Fragrant, frost tolerant perennials that can return yearly if taken care of. Thrive in full sun to partial shade. Requires rich well draining soil. Plant in fall from Sept. to Dec.

Crocus & Snowdrops: Crocus come in a wide variety of colors whereas snowdrops are typically all white. Crocus is a pollinator favorite, these thrive in full sun to partial shade and require well draining, sandy, loose soil. Plant in early Fall.

Alliums: Bold, architectural blooms that pair well with patios. Thrives in full sun and requires well draining soil and infrequent watering. Plant bulbs in the fall after first frost.

Perennials to Establish Now

Creeping Phlox: Great for borders and erosion control. Thrives in full sun to partial shade with at least 6 hours of direct morning sunlight per day. Once established, can be drought-tolerant. Requires well draining, slightly acidic to neutral soil (pH 6.0-7.0)

Penstemon: Native-friendly and, once established, are heat and drought-tolerant. A hummingbird favorite. Deer and rabbit resistant. Thrives in full sun and requires well draining soil. Water deeply but infrequently.

Yarrow: Ideal for dry soil and pollinator friendly gardens. Thrives in full sun and well-draining soil. Water sparingly once established, dead-head spent flowers to encourage reblooming.

Coneflowers (Echinacea): Adds height and texture near decks.Herbaceous perennials, meaning they die in winter but come back from their roots each year for some varieties. Thrives in full sun but can tolerate part shade. Requires well draining soil & once established, are drought resistant. When starting, provide consistent moisture until established.

PLAN AHEAD

Municipal building permits can take up to two months for approval. Winter is the ideal time to submit plans. Less construction traffic means faster processing and easier scheduling.
